There’s also the fact that, as far as Ethan is concerned, Brona died at the end of Season One. After all, Dracula sat out Season Two completely, only to return this year. Will he eventually recall Vanessa’s place in it? Probably, but Logan is a master of the long game. That will surely come later as the Creature contains to remember his own past. That did not happen, so we still have yet to see his demise. I entered the episode knowing that the Orderly was the Creature’s previous form and expecting him to die in some fashion. Questions still remain unanswered, however.
The episode closes with Vanessa coming out of her hypnosis and remembering everything, including the name of Dracula.

If Lucifer has been whispering in the ear of man and tempting him into committing acts of evil throughout the centuries, then perhaps it was Dracula who did the same to his brother during their time sitting at the left hand of God? It’s a dynamic that I have been utterly obsessed with these past two days and cannot wait to see developed further as the series goes on. It’s merely spitballing on my part, but one has to wonder if it was Dracula’s idea to attempt a coup in heaven, not Lucifer’s. I was delighted enough as Lucifer waltzed about the room tempting Vanessa, but delighted even more when he squirmed into the corner and almost held a fetal position when his brother arrived. They are made even more fantastic by Kinnear’s performances of each, however, especially when we are blessed with two Kinnears at once each bickering with one another and vying for Vanessa’s hand. Lucifer is the scorned lover with a twisted soul and Dracula is the conqueror who utterly lacks one.įrom a story standpoint alone, these are fantastic glimpses into these characters. After all, wouldn’t one automatically assume that Lucifer would be the stronger of the two? I love that this has not turned out to be the case, both as a fan of Dracula and of unexpected twists in general. This is yet another instance of John Logan sidestepping expectations. Dracula is indeed the brother of Lucifer and, surprisingly enough, ole Scratch is actually afraid of his vampiric brother. This week has dispelled such a theory, for better or worse. A popular fan theory over the past year has been that perhaps Dracula is NOT the earthly brother of Lucifer. Last season revealed that not one angel fell from Heaven and gave birth to evil, but two: one to rule the darkness of Hell and the other to reign over the darkness on Earth. The chemistry between them is crackling and if Kinnear doesn’t get an Emmy (or Golden Globe) nomination for his performance here, there is no justice. Both actors have excelled in their roles constantly throughout the series, but are at another level here. Seward is present at times, the episode is primarily just a two-handed between Green and Kinnear. Last week brought forth the revelation that the Creature (Rory Kinnear), in his previous human form, was Vanessa’s orderly.
Vanessa has repressed the majority of what occurred to her in the asylum and she is now finally remembering those events. She occasionally comments on what has occurred, experiencing the events through Vanessa’s mind’s eye and occasionally appearing within the cell to discuss the revelations. Seward (Patti LuPone) is there with her every step of the way. This week’s tale is a flashback one spurred by deep hypnosis, so Dr. Here we see her time in her cell in between said treatments, as the fight is slowly taken out of her. While we glimpsed a portion of this in the first season, the majority of those scenes focused on the barbaric medical treatments of the time period that were inflicted on her. This year, we are given another look at said institutionalization.
